Dear Parents of our Under-6 year old patients,
The HSE website which allows you to register your child or children for Free GP Care is live from Monday 15th June 2015.
You will notice when you try to register that Dr Murphy, Dr Wilson and Dr Quirke do not appear on the list of registered GPs.
The reasons for this are both simple and complex. The simple reason is that we have not signed up for the Free GP care scheme as yet. We hope to do so pending the outcome of a High Court case taken by our union the National Association of General Practitioners (NAGP). The NAGP represent some 1300 GP's but were excluded from the negotiation of the Under 6 contract and the voices of their members were disregarded.
Meanwhile, some GPs feel bullied into signing up, hence the numbers of participating GPs are slowly rising around the country.
If you want to know more about the complex reasons, there will be a lengthy article on our blog HERE very soon.
For the moment, we would ask that you simply send an email to email@example.com letting us know that you will be signing up and continuing as a patient of ours. We don't want you to feel that you need to change GPs when you can't find your doctor's name listed on the registration site. Please include your children's names and dates of birth in your email.
For the moment, we are only accepting registrations from our existing patients, and families who recently moved to Galway.
The Free GP scheme is scheduled to commence from 1 July and we are committed to providing Free Care to all our Under 6 year olds as soon as possible. There is every chance that we will be registered before too long in any case.
In the meantime, let's hope the Minister will negotiate with our union to resolve the problems.
There will be no interruption to your children's care.

Anam Cara Galway, an organisation that supports bereaved parents, will hold its next monthly Parent Evening on Wednesday 2nd of May from 19:30 to 21:00 in the Clayton Hotel, Old Monivea Road, Ballybrit, Galway.
Finally, we are back up and running almost as normal.
We have no heating and no carpets but phones are back.
We do have a bit of a backlog of appointments to get through but we're getting there.
