IMO launch GP campaign

Your GP – Help Us To Help More Campaign

The Irish Medical Organisation have launched a national campaign calling on the Government to resource General Practice properly to allow us to care for you and your family safely.

GPs have a significant role to play in tackling the problems in our health services and are key to any health reform such as the 'free GP care for under 6's' announced by Minister Reilly in the 2014 budget. This initiative was not negotiated with GPs and we have no idea how, when or indeed IF it will be introduced making planning for this provision of care impossible.

Did you know...

  • GPs undertake 22 million patient consultations each year in Ireland
  • 70% of patients needs are dealt with by GPs without the need for referral to another health service
  • GPs have a 97% satisfaction rating among patients in a Medical Council survey
  • A strong GP and primary care system is associated with better health outcomes, equity of access, more appropriate utilisation of services, cost effectiveness and increased patient satisfaction
  • Only 2% of the Irish health budget is spent on general practice

We are calling for an increase in the budget spent on General Practice with a corresponding plan for increased patient services.

Please play your part in ensuring that patients can continue to access a full range of services through their local GP by supporting our campaign.
Thank you for your support.
